Font Populista is a project that celebrates a popular typographic style in Italy from the 1970s to the 1990s, commonly seen on the shop windows of various commercial activities and artisan workshops. Originating from adhesive vinyl letters sold in hardware stores, this style, characterized by its DIY approach and often imperfect execution, has unwittingly played a fundamental role in shaping the Italian popular aesthetic. The project aims to preserve this unique, yet endangered, cultural phenomenon through a photographic collection and vector reconstruction of the entire alphabet, with modern additions.
The resulting font is usable within the website and available for free download, offering both a historical homage and a contemporary resource for designers.
